Compstall is the gateway to Etherow Country Park — a beautiful country park of lakes, woodland and wildlife, with a visitor centre, café and sailing on the old mill lodge. Just beyond the park entrance, the village offers places to eat, shop and browse, from the Andrew Arms to the newsagents and the new village florist.
The lake is Compstall’s centrepiece — a former mill lodge, over 700 metres long, now a peaceful stretch of water for sailing, wildlife and quiet walks around the shore.
Sheltered in the Etherow valley, it is one of the best reasons to visit: open water, reflections of the surrounding hills, and a living reminder of the village’s industrial past turned natural beauty.

Reached via the park, Whitebottom Farm sits in Compstall’s rural hinterland, with a Grade II listed farmhouse dated 1690. The estate is part of the landscape that frames the country park and valley beyond.
